Suvarnabhumi (BKK) Air Cargo: How Thai Air Exports Actually Move
Suvarnabhumi Airport's Free Zone cargo complex handles nearly all Thai air exports. General cargo cut-off is typically 6 hours before departure, and a Delivery Order at destination releases 4 to 6 hours after flight arrival.

Key facts
| Item | Detail |
|---|---|
| Location | Bang Phli, Samut Prakan, east of Bangkok |
| Role | Thailand's primary air cargo gateway |
| General cargo cut-off | Typically 6 hours before departure |
| DG cargo lead time | 2-3 days for documentation and acceptance |
| Direct freighter/belly lanes | Europe, Japan, Korea, Gulf, Australia, US via NE Asia |
How does export acceptance work at BKK?
Cargo enters the Free Zone terminal, is weighed and measured (chargeable weight is confirmed here, not at booking), passes X-ray security screening, and is accepted against the air waybill. Discrepancies between booked and actual weight are settled before the flight, which is why our quotes state the volumetric divisor upfront.
When is the cut-off for a Thai air export?
General cargo typically closes 6 hours before departure; consolidations close earlier because the master air waybill must be built. Dangerous goods need acceptance 24 hours ahead plus 2 to 3 days of documentation lead time.
What happens after the flight lands?
The destination handler breaks down the shipment and issues the Delivery Order, normally 4 to 6 hours after arrival for general cargo. Clearance at destination starts from the DO, which is why door-to-door air is measured in days, not the flight's hours.

Operator execution rules
These rules apply to every sea freight quote and booking. Indicative rates are not a guarantee without a scoped quote.
- 14-day rate locks max
Do not guarantee these rates past 14 days. Carrier war surcharges are floating weekly.
- UAE high-risk clause
TH to AE requires an explicit floating insurance addendum in client contracts to cover sudden port blockages or diverted discharges at Jebel Ali.
- Working capital squeeze
Ocean lines are demanding shorter payment terms on Middle East and European lanes. We need to collect 100% freight prepayment from clients before container loading.
Contract wording is in our Standard Trading Conditions.
